The Industry Office of the Festival del film Locarno is delighted to report that distribution rights for two of the films in the Concorso internazionale have been acquired following the announcement of the selection for the 2010 edition.

International sales company Ellipsis has bought world rights for Daniele Gaglianone’s Pietro. The film will be screened as a world première at the 63rd edition of the Festival del film Locarno and is the only Italian film in the Concorso internazionale. Pietro is Daniele Gaglianone’s third feature (I nostri anni, Nemmeno il destino). The Italian director had previously participated in the Festival in 1995 with the short film L'orecchio ferito del piccolo comandante and in 2008 with the documentary Rata Nece Biti (Non ci sarà la Guerra).

“We are delighted to be representing the film “Pietro” worldwide, and having from such an effective launchpad as that of the Festival del Film Locarno. Because we, like them, felt the need to support such an intense and necessary film, which we will give all the care and attention that is usually accorded much bigger productions”, commented Flavio Donnini from Ellipsis.

In addition, the French company mk2 has acquired international distribution rights for the film Periferic, a first feature from Romanian director Bogdan George Apetri. In 2006 the filmmaker produced and directed his first short, O foarte scurta trilogie despre singuratate, followed by Ultima zi in decembrie (2008). Bogdan has  recently co-produced Eric Mendelsohn’s 3 Backyards (winner of the Best Direction prize at Sundance in 2010) and, in 2009, Florin Serban’s Emigrant.

The 63rd edition of the Festival del film Locarno takes place 4th - 14th August 2010.
