The Locarno team were profoundly saddened to hear the news of the death of a great friend of the Festival, the Italian actor and director Corso Salani, who passed away on June 16 in Ostia. Corso Salani first featured in Locarno in1995 with his short film Danilo, then in 2006 with the documentary Il Peggio di noi. In 2007 Salani won the Special CinéCinéma Jury Prize in the Concorso Cineasti del presente for Imatra, the third in an enchanting series of six films made in various European countries, called Confini d'Europa – and shown in their entirety at Locarno the following year. An auteur whose work was personal and intimist, somewhere between documentary and fiction, Salani was a Festival guest once again in 2009, presenting Mirna, a cinematic journey through the Andes.
