The Locarno Film Festival salutes master filmmaker Werner Schroeter, who died on 12 April. The German director was awarded the prestigious Pardo d'onore at Locarno in 1996. That evening the Piazza Grande hosted the world premiere of his Poussières d'amour - Abfallprodukte der Liebe (Love’s Debris). Schroeter presented several of his films at the Festival over the years, from the well-known Der Tod der Maria Malibran (The Death of Maria Malibran, 1972) to Die Königin (The Queen, 2000).
