Manga Impact - The World of Japanese Animation
Tonight at 9.30 pm on the Piazza Grande the French animation director Michel Ocelot (Azur et Asmar, Kirikou and the Sorceress) will deliver a Honorific Leopard to the Japanese animation Master Isao Takahata, who will attend Locarno on the occasion of the Manga Impact project; during the same night it will be also screened on the Piazza Grande his masterpiece Pom Poko (1994). Takahata will also introduce the screening of Little Norse Prince Valiant (1970) on Thursday, August 6 at 11 am at Ex-Rex and Grave of the fireflies (1988) on Friday, August 7 at 4.30 pm at Ex-Rex. Furthermore, a conversation with Michel Ocelot and Isao Takahata, open to the public, will take place at the Forum (Spazio Cinema) on Friday, August 7 at 10.30 am.
Takahata is the Author of the TV series Heidi (1974), 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother (1976) and Anne of Green Gables (1979), and he founded in 1985 with Hayao Miyazaki the famous Studio Ghibli. Among his well known works are Grave of the fireflies (1988), Pom Poko (1994) and My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999).
